User manual

Congratulations on your new EXO honey press machine.

Before you begin using your new EXO honey press, you must assemble it according to the included assembly instructions—or ensure that it has been assembled as prescribed in the manual.

Before connecting the machine to a power source, make sure that it is connected to the correct voltage: 240 V, 10/13 A, alternating current at 50 Hz.

The machine falls under the Heavy Current Directive and must therefore always be connected to the electrical grid using one phase, one neutral, and a ground connection.

Usage Instructions

When using the machine:
Before you begin pressing honey, please pay attention to the following:

  • Ensure the honey is ripe, i.e., sufficiently dry, in accordance with the Honey Directive.

  • There must be no brood in the frames. It is acceptable if there has been brood in the frames previously.

  • The honeycombs must be cut out of the frames and divided as needed to fit into EXO’s comb feed slot.

On the machine’s control panel, you can select the direction in which the belts should move.
If the belts are moving into the feed slot, the honeycombs are pressed, and honey is extracted through the machine’s perforated plates, draining into the honey container underneath.
If you set the belts to move out of the feed slot, the inserted frame will be pulled back out. This function is useful if a frame gets stuck during insertion—typically due to a high pollen content. A pollen-rich frame can be cut into smaller pieces to allow better passage through the machine.

The EXO machine operates continuously. Simply feed the honeycomb pieces into the machine and ensure there is sufficient space at the exit end of the machine, as the wax is continuously ejected after pressing. Ideally, place the machine so the output end is near the edge of a table. A bucket can then be placed below, where the pressed combs can fall.
The wax still contains some honey (typically around 5–10%) after the first pressing. You can let it drain in a bucket or tub, or choose to run the combs through the EXO machine again to extract more honey.

Note:
There is only a slide gate on the container under the machine—not a tap!
The slide gate is not fully sealed, so a container should always be placed under the honey outlet. The gate is useful for changing containers, as it holds back the honey just long enough to switch. A tap is not used because wax residues in the honey would quickly clog it and block the flow.

If Something Gets Stuck in the Machine

You have the following options if something gets jammed:

  1. Set the belts to run in reverse — this may release the jam.

  2. If that doesn't work:

    • Turn off the machine and disconnect the power.

    • Remove the springs so the top frame (vange) can be lifted.

    • IMPORTANT: Always lock the top frame with the provided safety pin to prevent it from falling.

    • Then remove the obstruction between the perforated plates.

CLEANING

We recommend cleaning the machine after each use.

  • Remove the motor(s), control box, and gearbox, as these must not come into contact with water.

  • Disassemble the rest of the machine and place the components in clean, cold water. Avoid using soap.

  • Let the parts soak for 4–12 hours. After soaking, honey and wax can be rinsed off easily.

  • Dry the parts and reassemble the machine.

WARNING

The EXO is a mechanical machine without emotions.
Therefore:
Do not place fingers, hands, clothing, etc., on or near the moving parts—this includes the motor(s), shafts, and belts.
The motor does not have active cooling and is designed to reach temperatures of up to 85°C during operation.

If any part of your clothing, hand, or body is caught in the machine, you must immediately shut it off using the emergency stop button, which cuts all power to the machine.
Once the emergency stop has been activated, it must be reset before the machine can be restarted.
